Today is Pete McGarvey day in Orillia.
To mark the occasion Lakehead University is honouring the community leader, former broadcaster and politician with an Honorary degree in Humane letters during today’s convocation ceremony.
Lakehead University Orillia Dean, Kim Fedderson says its a privilege to be able to bestow this honour of McGarvey who Fedderson says has contributed so much to Orillia.
Fedderson says McGarvey’s work with the Leacock Museum and the Mariposa Folk Festival has put Orillia on the map and make the community stand out.
Besides McGarvey, Paul Weber is being honoured by the University with the Civitas Award.
Weber is being recognized for his leadership of Lakehead Universities Your Bright Future fundraising campaign to build the Orillia Campus on University Avenue.
This year more than 300 students will be graduating from the Orillia Campus of Lakehead.
