The OPP, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment and Ontario Municipal Police Services are joining forces for Operation Corridor, to crack down on aggressive commercial truck drivers and unsafe commercial vehicles on Ontario’s busiest highways
Operation Corridor is an annual 24-hour border-to-border highway safety initiative that focuses on high visibility, enforcement and safety education on major highways. The initiative will run for 24-hours starting tomorrow, June 14th from 6 a.m.
The OPP will focus on speed and moving violations, while MTO and MOE inspectors check for poorly maintained commercial vehicles, mechanical problems that render them unsafe, vehicles that do not meet emission standards and, if appropriate, take them off the road.
Last year during Operation Corridor, the OPP pulled over 1,769 commercial vehicles, laying a total of 159 speeding charges. Various other charges were laid in relation to aggressive driving and unsafe commercial vehicles.
