Local trustees are fuming and calling on the community to demand answers after Orillia was left out of the latest funding announcement for schools, according to the Packet & Times.
The provincial government has announced $650 million for numerous capital projects including the renovation and construction of schools, across the province.
And for the second year in a row, the Simcoe County District School Board’s top priorities have not been funded. No. 2 on the board’s list was the construction of a new high school in Orillia and the closure of two existing ones, ODCVI and Park Street.
But the Ministry of Education has decided to fund a new elementary school in Innisfil and a replacement for an elementary school in Alliston, which were number 3 and 5 on the board’s list.
