Everyone who has a slip at the Port of Orillia must decorate their boat on June 25 – as it is Christmas in June!
June 25, of course, marks the halfway point in the stretch toward Christmas.
Susan Lang with the Orillia Chamber of Commerce says boats at the Port will be decorated with lights, and all sorts of decorations.
She says some even adopt themes – Shrek, and The Cat In The Hat are two themes that readily come to mind.
Spectators can also expect to see a parade featuring all of the decorated boats.
Lang adds there is usually a charitable cause attached to the Christmas in June event – this year it’s the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Legion will be hosting a Christmas in June turkey dinner on Friday night starting at 6 o’clock.
On Saturday night, the traditional turkey buffet will be held at the legion starting at 5 o’clock.
Lang says this tradition has been going on since the late 1980’s.
