A few tense moments yesterday afternoon when a child was left unattended in a car in Orillia on Atherley road.
Police were called after several concerned citizens noticed a baby in a car seat left alone inside a pickup truck in the parking lot.
Employees of the store attempted to locate the mother but were unsuccessful.
Police and ambulance were called.
Officers immediately attended the scene and found the young child crying.
Police were able to gain access to the vehicle and safely remove the child. The infant was assessed by paramedics at the scene before being transported to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
The mother of the 11 month old child arrived a short time later.
The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) was contacted and notified of the investigation.
Police have charged a 25 year old female with one count of Abandoning a Child.
She was released on a recognizance and is to appear in court on September 6, 2011.
The child was treated and released from hospital.
