Another Mariposa Folk Festival is in the history books, and the 51st edition being hailed a huge success by the organizers, audience and performers.
Mariposa Folk Festival Artistic Director Mike Hill could not have been more pleased with the perfect alignment of weather, entertainers and visitors.
He says while they are very close to the numbers for the 2009 festival, they are a little shy of attendance figures for last years 50th anniversary celebration.
Hill says this year saw entertainment from around the globe and right across Canada.
He was especially impressed with the turnout for the Saturday night Main Stage feature act of Emmylou Harris and Sundays folk legend Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary fame.
Hill says the fact that Ron Sexsmith was able to perform one of his songs with Emmylou Harris Saturday was truly magical experience.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the first ever appearance at not just Mariposa, but any folk festival anywhere in Canada of John McDermott who brought the Saturday evening crowd to their feet several times.
Hill says one of the surprise hits of the weekend was the performance of Yeshe (Yea-shee) who lives in Australia, but brought a unique form of world music to this years festival.
Hill says next year he would like to see Arlo Guthrie grace the main stage, as he is another folk legend that has never had the opportunity to play the Mariposa Folk Festival.
