Ottawa and Ontario have signed an agreement that will ensure the future health of the historic Trent Severn Water Way, which Orillia is part of.
Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton says the agreement which was signed yesterday will ensure that both levels of government are on the same page when it comes to dealing with the economic and physical health of the waterway.
Stanton says Ottawa as the leader in terms of management of the system also realizes that it must work in partnership with both the Provincial and municipal government to get the most out of the system.
Stanton says this agreement is based on recommendations from a 2007 study of the water way that determined there needed to be more co operation between both levels of government to ensure the water way was able to reach its economic potential.
Stanton says its taken several years to hash out the details of the agreement.
Stanton says that one areas of co-operation that could come from this agreement is in the area of water management which is done by the province.
