Regional – OPP Stepping Up Enforcement for Long Weekend
The Civic Holiday long weekend is upon us – and the OPP are once again stepping up enforcement.
Constable Peter Leon says there will be an increased number of officers patrolling area roadways and waterways.
Officers will be specifically looking for the “Big Four” – aggressive driving, impaired driving, seatbelts, and distracted driving.
Constable Leon says the OPP laid more than nine thousand charges last Civic Holiday weekend – nearly six thousand of those relating to speeding and racing.
Leon adds the OPP continues to rely on tips from the public – if you see any unsafe driving practices while you’re out and about, pull over and call the police.
