The Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has charged a Barrie Police Officer stemming from an incident that occurred in September.
On September 17th, the officer in question fired at a vehicle.
At the time, the officer was trying to stop the fleeing vehicle after investigating several people of interest.
The vehicle hit a tree and the occupants fled. Three of them were quickly located and arrested. A fourth occupant wasn’t arrested until October 10th, when it became apparent he’d been shot.
As a result, BPS Sergeant Michael Chytuk has been charged by the SIU with one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
He is set to appear in a Barrie court February 4th to answer to the charge.
