More than 14 hundred athletes are set to make a huge splash in Lake Couchiching here in Orillia tomorrow (Sunday) morning.
That is when they will dive into the water to begin the 21 st annual Northern Orillia triathlon.
According to Mitch Fraser the main spring event will have the competitors swim 750 meters, bike 33 kilometres and run 7 km.
He says most of the athletes can do this course in just over an hour and a half.
In addition there is a spring duathlon where the competitors just run and bike the distance.
For those just getting into the sport there is a less strenuous event called the try-a tri where people swim 375 meters, bike 10 km and run 2.5 km.
Fraser says the event here in Orillia has been running for more than 21 years and because its in the same location is the most popular of all the events they stage across the province.
He says people of all ages compete in the triathlon from 13 to the early 70s.
The first swimmers enter the water at 8 am Sunday morning at Couchiching beach park.
Orillia OPP are warning motorists there the event will cause some delays on some city streets.
