Parking fees are going up – and so too are the fines for those who park illegally.
City Council has voted to increase the parking metre fee from a dollar an hour to two dollars an hour – however the time limit is also increasing, going from one hour to two hours.
In addition, parking fines will be increased to 15 dollars for early payment – and a 20 dollar set fine.
Councillor Pete Bowen expressed his desire to table the motion in order to get input from the City’s Parking Advisory Committee as a matter of protocol.
Councillor Michael Fogarty was not in agreement – stating that Orillia has not been keeping pace with other municipalities with regard to parking fees and fines.
Councillor Don Jenkins was also opposed to tabling the motion – pointing out public annoyance with the one hour time limit for parking downtown.
