Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the Orillia area and all of Southern Ontario.Rain at times heavy. Amount 30 to 40 mm. Wind northeast 40 km/h gusting to 60. That has prompted a warning from two Conservation Authorities. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority have both issued a High Water Safety Bulletin. They are warning of a low pressure system tracking into Ontario that will bring 40 50 mm of rain over the next 36 hours with the heaviest rains occurring late today and overnight. Flows on area watercourses are expected to rise significantly. Public safety near the watercourses is emphasized. Officials say watercourses are presently flowing at near seasonal levels but soils are wet from recent precipitation. The forecast rainfall will result in runoff that may cause watercourses to spill out of their banks with flooding of low-lying areas. The public and especially children are being advised to stay away from all area water bodies, as fast flowing cold water and slippery banks will result in dangerous conditions.
