Policing options have been put on the table, by a special committee of the Orillia police services board. The committee wants council to investigate alternative policing options for the city.
The city’s contract with the OPP expires in December 2012. OPP are in line for an 8.5% pay increase in 2014 after a 2 year wage freeze, adding about 620 thousand dollars to the Orillia budget.
Among the options the committee would like to explore are the current model, a stand alone municipal force, or a stand alone OPP detachment.
