The first public meeting in the ARC process for Coldwater, Moonstone, and Warminster has come and gone.
The gym at Moonstone Elementary School was full as all those who will be effected by the outcome of the Accomodation Review process took the opportunity to speak on the issue.
Among those making formal presentations were MPP Garfield Dunlop and Oro Medonte Mayor Harry Hughes.
Dunlop has long been supportive of keeping Moonstone Elementary School open – saying rural schools are an essential part of rural heritage and culture.
He adds with the regional population due for a growth spurt, it’s premature to speculate where enrolment numbers will be in 10 to 20 years.
Oro Medonte Mayor Harry Hughes agrees on the importance of keeping rural schools open.
Hughes suggests bussing students from larger centres to the smaller schools would be a means of keeping the them open – adding not everyone who lives in a big city wants their children to attend school in the big city.
The Accomodation Review Committee will now take all of the submissions and presentations made last night into consideration as the process moves forward.
