Raw milk crusader Michael Schmidt has abandoned his five-week-old hunger strike after meeting with Premier Dalton McGuinty today.
Schmidt says he had a meeting with the premier’s chief of staff today when McGuinty unexpectedly joined in.
At the end, he told Premier McGuinty…he was ending his hunger strike.
Schmidt says the meeting with Premier McGuinty was at least 15 minutes long and he feels a dialogue can now start on the issue of raw milk.
Schmidt says all he wanted was to meet the guy in charge of making the rules….
But he has little appetite …. after losing 50 pounds.
The Durham farmer began his hunger strike after he was found guilty on 15 charges related to the sale of unpasteurized milk.
The Durham area farmer is to be sentenced Nov. 22nd on several charges related to the sale of milk.
Schmidt says he lost 50 pounds on his hunger strike but believes it was worthwhile even though the government still isn’t ready to allow the sale of raw milk.
