People attending next years Mariposa Folk Festival could be packing sleeping bags and tents beside their lawn chairs.
The Festival is asking Orillia Council for permission to allow camping at the festival site for people who are attending the annual musical event. In a letter to council, Pam Carter the Festival Organizing Committee Chair is asking permission open up on-site camping to the general audience at the 2012 Mariposa Folk Festival.
She says for the past many years, with the permission of the City, Mariposa Folk Festival has provided onsite camping for volunteers and artisans and there have been no problems or complaints.
Carter says there are several reasons why onsite audience camping is needed at theFolk Festival, not the
least of which is financial. She points out in the current fiscal environment, grant and sponsorship revenues are soft.
In making this request the Festival also noted that Ride for Sight took place in Tudhope Park for
the first time in 2011, and was granted approval for audience camping.
Carter says Key features of the audience camping plan include Adherence to municipal bylaws and Mariposas strict alcohol policy of the past 12 years will apply to festival campers.
