It’s been a good year for businesses in Orillia in 2011.
That was some of the news delivered yesterday (THU) at a wrap-up event of the City’s Business Retention and Expansion program.
The City’s Business Retention and Expansion program held their project wrap up and reception yesterday at the Orillia City Centre.
Orillia’s Economic Development Manager Dan Landry delivered a report based on a survey conducted with local business.
Landry says the most enthusiastic thing that he found in the survey was that most of the business fared well during the recession.
He says some had their best year and about half of those surveyed say they are also looking to expand in the next 3 years.
Landry says he hopes to tap into the elements needed to move forward and grow.
He says the expansion of business means more jobs and development for Orillia’s economy.
But Landry also pointed out a number of challenges.
Landry says the biggest thing businesses faced was communication with the City.
He says they would like to know what is expected and stream-line the process.
He also cites business training, customer service, and sucession planning as challenges businesses in Orillia will have to deal with.
