A dramatic rescue Saturday, after a couple of snowmobiles went through the ice of Lake Muskoka in the Torrence area, between Bala and Acton Islands. It took the combined efforts of the Muskoka Lakes Fire Department Ice Rescue Team, an OPP chopper as well as paramedics and other first responders to get to the pair.
One was plucked from the water by the helicoper crew–and taken to hospital. The other was able to get to Bala Island, where fire fighters eventually retrieved him despite dangerous ice conditions. Authorities are pleading with sledders to stay off the ice unless they are absolutely sure it's safe.
