Simcoe County councillors plan to ask for clarity from the province to better understand the premier's regional government review. But they're also going to try to influence any changes the government may be contemplating to the make-up of local governments and the delivery of services.
After a day-long session Tuesday where county councillors brainstormed and tried to guess what the province might be planning, Warden George Cornell said their two-pronged approach makes sense. He's hoping Queen's Park will come up with more information about the objectives of the government review and listen to input from local councillors before any changes are imposed. The province is examining regional governments around the Golden Horseshoe as well as the County of Simcoe, and Muskoka. The premier has said in the past he believes there are too many politicians and too much red tape.
