Today was the 31st anniversary of Terry Fox bringing his Marathon of Hope to Orillia.
Hundreds of people packed Couchiching Beach Park on July 27 1980 to hear him speak about his goal of taking his marathon of hope from coast to coast.
One of those who remembers that talk is the Organizer of the Orillia Terry Fox Run, Allison Stoneman.
She says it was truly an inspiring event.
Stoneman says she was a teenager at the time and her parents drove her up from Barrie so she could see Terry speak.
She says the memory of seeing Fox and hearing him speak was very helpful when she had to battle cancer later in her life at the age of 31.
Stoneman says 31 years later, the memory of seeing Terry remains strong as she continues to plan for this years run which takes place on September 18th at Couchiching Beach Park.
Last years event raised more than 44 thousand dollars for Cancer Research.
