The Simcoe County District School Board is telling the Ford government that proposed changes to class sizes will negatively impact students and jeopardize their potential for high school graduation.
The letter by Board chair Jodi Lloyd to the Education Minister warns the changes will threaten the ability of schools, especially small schools, to offer programs such as agriculture and those with a skilled trades focus.
The letter goes on to say proposed class size changes will impact the ability of schools to offer cooperative education programs where students take skilled trade apprenticeships.
As part of the government's new education plan, class sizes in high school will go from 22 to 28, and up by one student each in grades 4 to 8.
Before the letter lands on the minister's desk, it must be approved by trustees at tonight's school board meeting.
