A proposed supervised consumption site in Barrie would be located at 90 Mulcaster Street, in an office of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Nancy Roxborough, executive director of CMHA Simcoe Branch says the option of 90 Mulcaster is an excellent fit for this service, and says being located with CMHA connects it to the important mental health and addiction treatment services provided by the association, adding it's next door to the David Busby Street Centre.
The Simcoe Musoka Opioid Strategy, which includes the Gilbert Centre, CMHA and other community partners, carried out the search for a location.
A neighbourhood meeting will be held for local residents and businesses next month, while city council will be asked to endorse the plan at a June 3 meeting, then the application is sent to the federal and provincial governments for their stamp of approval.
