Schools in urban centres dominate the top rankings in the latest Fraser Institute Report Card on Ontario Elementary Schools.
The Fraser Institute ranked 3,030 schools across the province, both public and private, based on nine academic indicators from the results of province-wide reading, writing and math tests in 2012-13.
One of the top ranked rural schools in Ontario is Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Dashwood, near Exeter — it finished 39th with a rating of 9.5 out of 10.
Forest Hill in Midhurst was 142nd with a rating of 8.6.
Admiral Collingwood was 165th with a rating of 8.5 while the top ranked school in Wasaga Beach was Worsley Elementary at 312th with a rating of 8.
The top ranked school in Orillia was Monsignor Lee at 247th with a rating of 8.2
The top ranked school in Goderich is Goderich Public at 312th with a rating of 8.
In Bruce County, Mother Teresa in Walkerton and Northport Elementary in Port Elgin both finished 403rd with a rating of 7.8.
Peninsula Shores in Wiarton had a rating of 7.0 and finished 862nd.
In Grey County, Derby School in Kilsyth and Beavercrest in Markdale also finished 862 with a rating of 7.0.
Alexandra School in Owen Sound is among the lowest ranked Ontario schools in the report with a rating of 1.9 out of 10 — but the school rating is also incomplete.
Paisley Central had a rating of 2.8 out of 10 while Lucknow Central had a rating of 3.0.
St. Noel Chabanel in Wasaga Beach had a rating of 3.0 and Harriett Todd in Orillia finished with a 2.8 rating.
Peter Cowley — the Fraser Institute’s Director of School Performance Studies — says the rankings are important in helping schools raise their academic standards.
The province wide reading, writing and math tests in 2012-13 were administered by the Education Quality and Accountability Office.
