Some order is being restored to the thousands of documents and artifacts at Orillia's Leacock Museum, which the facility's Collections and Program Supervisor admits were in a state of disarray.
Tom Rose brought in some experts last fall from the Canadian Conservation Institute, who found the artifacts were at risk of damage or loss
Since then they've been working on sorting, organizing and cataloging the material.
Rose told Orillia council committee last night that it is a problem faced by many small museums.
He says things really have only been standardized at musuems since the 1950s, adding it's an evolving field as technology advances.
The experts also raised concerns about the lack of a fire suppression system in Swanmore Hall and some minor water leakage in the Leack Home, in the basement.
The city is working on a museum master-plan which is expected to outline the future direction for the museum, which is a national historic site.
