Orillia wants to change the way it goes about approving building plans in the city.
The City held a symposium last Wednesday to discuss ways to streamline the Site Plan Approval process.
Manager of Economic Development Dan Landry says the purpose of the symposium is to have people work with staff in the Planning and Development department find ways of shortening the time and expense for those who want to build or expand their businesses.
Landry says when people want to construct a building in Orillia, there is a process they have to follow.
It usually takes 3 to 5 months to receive Site Plan approval from the City.
He says the City wants to find efficiencies in order to shorten the length of time and save money for the contractor.
Landry says the City received applications for building permits valued at 3.7 Million dollars in 2011.
He says that was up from the 180 thousand dollars in 2010 and 1.2 Million dollars in 2009.
He says businesses are looking to grow and locate in Orillia and it is a good sign for the city.
