It’s down to five for the 2010 Stephen Leacock literary award.
The Orillia based Stephen Leacock Association awards the annual prize to the book judged to be the most humorous one published in Canada – and written by a Canadian.
The national award carries a 15 thousand dollar prize – and 15 hundred dollar prizes for the runners-up.
Chair of the Awards Committee Judith Rapson says the award has been around since 1947 – with past Leacock winners being the likes of Pierre Burton, Farley Mowat, and Mordecai Richler.
She says the reading committee reviewed a record 70 submissions for this years Award of Humour.
This years finalists include – Todd Babiak for “Toby a Man,” Trevor Cole for “Practical Jean,” Terry Fallis for “The High Road,” Red Green for “How to do Everything,” and David Rakoff for “Half Empty.”
Rapson says the books are judged based on smart humour and originality – and not simply a cheap laugh.
This years winning author will be announced on Thursday April 28th during a special luncheon at the Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre in Orillia.
You can buy tickets at Manticore Books in Orillia.
