After making some amendments, Barrie City Council has approved its budget for 2020.
It includes an operating budget of $362 million to deliver the city services residents and businesses rely on, and a capital budget of $231 million to fix more of Barrie’s roads, pipes and buildings and prepare for growth.
The 2020 budget includes a property tax increase of 1.96 per cent, which turns out to be about 122 dollars a year for the average home valued at 350-thousand dollars.
This year, the City says it faced additional financial pressures due to provincial downloading, including funding cuts to public health, county-run social services and city policing, which added $2.3 million to the City’s 2020 Business Plan & Budget.
