Shoemaker Levee is an alternative/indie rock band. They have a sound that is a mix of introspective lyrics and anthemic sounds. They are mostly heavy, but capable of dynamic changes. Their sound is unique as they draw from a plethora of bands for inspiration, from genres such as classical, progressive, alternative, folk, and many others. Shoemaker Levee have played in numerous downtown Toronto venues, have headlined Gussapolooza music festival, and won the Steam Whistle Indie Music series. The inspiration from their name came from the comet Shoemaker Levy-9, which burst into fragments and smashed into the planet Jupiter. It was the first collision of its kind to be recorded by humans.
Shoemaker Levee was a semi-finalist in Max FM’s 2023 Battle of the Bands. They were a finalist in 2024, and won the chance to play a Thursday night barge stage show in Gull Lake for the Tall Pines Music and Arts Festival. Three of their songs – Astride the 49th, Oversight, and Resistance – are all played on Max FM.
