Orillia’s firefighters union says safety of citizens and its members is at stake, because the city is routinely closing one of its two fire stations due to staff shortages.
Local fire fighters were joined by colleagues from other municipalities Monday in distributing leaflets across the city.
Union leaders say station 2 on Commerce Road has been closed for 20 days over the summer –meaning responses come from the main fire hall at the other end of town. They’d like to see the city hire temporary staff or bring in members on overtime to keep both stations open 24-7.
