The government of Canada is providing more than 10-thousand dollars to support the Royal Canadian Legion #262 in Elmvale.
Doug Shipley, Member of Parliament for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte, says the $10,845.05 in funding will assist the Elmvale Legion branch with its operational costs so they can continue providing important support for Veterans.
The Veterans Organizations Emergency Support Fund is part of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan to protect jobs, provide emergency support and keep businesses afloat through the pandemic.
Organizations receiving these funds will have access to the support they need to replace charitable and other revenue lost because of the pandemic and will be able to continue their work with Veterans and their families during a time when it is needed most.
“I am very pleased to see the delivery of these funds to the Elmvale Legion. Our legions are a community hub for our military members, their families and supporters. They deserve our support. I will continue to advocate for more funding support to ensure they have the means to continue.” said Shipley. “A special thank you to the volunteers and staff that dedicate their time and contribute greatly to its success.”
“Our branch is very thankful for the support that we have received, not only from our membership, but also our community during the periods of time that we have been impacted by Covid-19 protocols. The Veterans Organization Emergency Support Funding received from the Federal Government will do much to allow us to remain viable over these uncertain open/closing times.” said Legion President Graham Simmonds. “We do continue to support our Veterans even though closed and look forward to being able to open again shortly.”
