Thousands of cottagers may soon be heading our way. (Even though, we all know some are already here.)
The chief medical officer of health for the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit, Dr. Charles Gardner, said yesterday that he’s not prepared to issue a stay-away order to visitors from outside the health unit, because he would have no way of enforcing it.
Meanwhile, Premier Doug Ford says if people continue to do the right thing, he hopes cottage country will open back up to cottagers.
Ford says he is going to have a “heart-to-heart” conversation with local mayors later this week to discuss how to reopen to seasonal property owners.
He said he hoped by May 24th weekend if numbers continue to decline and cottagers bring their own groceries that they will be able to enjoy their property.
Ford said “There’s only so long you can hold back taxpayers.”
The Premier lives in Toronto, but his family owns a cottage on Fawn Lake between Bracebridge and Huntsville.
Wasaga Beach Mayor Nina Bifolchi is among those who have already written the Premier about “cottager” concerns.
