Canada has reported its first COVID-19 death, after a man in his 80’s died at a long-term care home in North Vancouver.
Health officials say the death happened at the Lynn Valley Care Centre on Sunday night, just days after the man's symptoms were detected.
Canada now has at least 78 cases of the respiratory illness: 32 in British Columbia, 36 in Ontario, seven in Alberta and four in Quebec.
Yesterday, the country's top doctor urged Canadians to avoid travelling on all cruise ships to protect against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The update came as Canada repatriated 237 Canadians aboard a cruise ship that has docked in California.
They were flown home this morning and will stay in quarantine at CFB Trenton for two weeks.
Meanwhile, the entire country of Italy is in lockdown, as it tries to stop an outbreak of the virus, that has killed more than 450 people in that country—the worst-hit after China.
