Orillia Council has approved the 2020 budget.
It includes a 3.5 per cent increase in property taxes, which will be about $44 for every $100,000 worth of property, or just over 120 dollars for the average homeowner.
However, city council anticipates the increase will be reduced to approximately 3 per cent, once the savings from the estimated provincial education tax is applied.
Orillia's $61.5 million operating budget includes the new waste collection contract and rising costs from the County of Simcoe and Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit as a result of provincial downloading and the Ontario Provincial Police contract, which accounts for 1.6% of the tax increase in 2020.
The City’s $30 million capital budget, focuses on infrastructure improvements, asset management, technology advancements, and sustainability.
