A national test of the Alert Ready system is taking place today.
Police are reminding residents, “Please do not call 911 for information about the test. Using 911 for non-emergency calls could delay help for people experiencing real emergencies.”
Test messages will be sent via compatible wireless devices, television and radio at 2:55 p.m. EST.
The alert system is designed to send out rapid messages in the event of an imminent threat to public safety.
