Premier Doug Ford has agreed to create a task force to tackle the Muskoka River Water Management Plan to try and mitigate future flooding situations in the District.
The Premier met with the mayors of Muskoka today in Bracebridge and Minett.
He says Muskoka Lakes Mayor Phil Harding discussed the task force idea with him and they both want it to start immediately…. (Above audio)
Ford says it seems like the flooding is happening constantly in Muskoka these past few years.
“We need to make sure we can control the flow of water,” he told media.
The press conference was done against the backdrop of several military Tap V vehicles, a testament to the significant Canadian Armed Forces contingent that has helped Bracebridge through the flooding emergency.
Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith says “it's been a heckuva ride the past few weeks.” He thanked the Premier for disaster relief funding and for being reachable.
“It means a lot that we have the support of the government here,” said the Mayor.
