The Orillia Fire Department wants residents to be Alarmed for Life.
That's the name of the annual campaign running between now and the end of September, where you could get a visit from firefighters who will ensure you have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home, that they are functioning and located where they should be.
Acting Fire Chief Brent Thomas says the spirit of the campaign is education and to make sure people are protected.
He says they are not in a position where they are going to lay any charges or fines.
In fact, the fire department will leave alarms so a person is protected.
Thomas says firefighters will also be willing to talk about a fire escape plan.
