Orillia's two year pilot project allowing backyard hens is going to continue for four more years.
The city allows chicken coops in certain areas, that have larger lot sizes.
Only four hens are permitted, owners have to pay a $100 license fee , and are subject to inspections by city staff.
A staff report admits response to the pilot project has been “underwhelming.”
Only three backyard hen houses are in operation.
But council committee felt the program was worth extending.
The decision requires council's approval next week.
