Generally, things are holding and not getting significantly worse in terms of flooding in Bracebridge at this time.
But there is still danger, with authorities asking that people keep away from the treacherous waterways and swift currents.
“If you spend five minutes standing by the water right now, you’ll see somebody’s personal property go flying by at a pretty high rate of speed,” said Mayor Graydon Smith at today’s press conference.
Because we will have a few dry days ahead before the next rainfall, it is hoped this will help lower water levels.
The North branch of the Muskoka River seems to be stabilizing today. The South branch continues to rise. Lake Muskoka continues to rise slowly.
15 roads in Bracebridge remain closed at this time. All water side parks are closed.
Quick Roads Snapshot: Beaumont Drive is closed to local traffic only. Santa’s Village Road is closed to local traffic only. Fraserburg Road remains closed. Smith says residents isolated anywhere in Bracebridge due to flooding are asked to call 211.
The Canadian Armed Forces have arrived today with supplies and know-how to help you if needed. Mayor Smith reminds that it is illegal to drive on closed roads.
Smith says please heed the road closed warnings for safety’s sake.
Seasonal property owners too are encouraged not to check on their properties at this time.
Sandbags are available free of charge at Fowler Construction at 1206 Rosewarne Drive.
“It’s fair to say this event is going to continue for several more days at some level and levels that are outside normal margins,” says Smith.
