Layoff notices for 51 public high school teachers in Simcoe County.
Board chair Jodi Lloyd says of those, 23 will not be returning in the fall, while efforts are made to find positions for the others.
The elementary level has been spared because there has been growth in enrolement.
Lloyd says the cuts are a direct result of the Ford government's proposed changes to class sizes.
She says this is a four year process to undertake and there will be more students in the classrooms in the fall than there have been in the past.
