Two local men have rescued a pregnant deer that was stuck in the ice in Lake Rosseau near Royal Muskoka Island yesterday.
Trevor Nicholls tells Muskoka 411 he and his colleague Grant Clifford were driving by when they saw a deer standing on the ice, then saw another one that was trapped in the ice.
The two men borrowed a canoe from a nearby boathouse, paddled out and broke a path for the deer to follow back to shore.
The deer was tired and upon reaching the shore, the two men lifted her out to land.
The two men then realized she was pregnant – the deer warmed herself up in the Easter Monday sun as she recovered.
