Two local school boards are reacting to the Ford government's announcement of class size increases.
Chair of the Simcoe County District School Board, Jodi Lloyd, responded to our enquiry about whether there would be any job losses.
She says the Minister of Education has indicated any adjustments would be made through attrition and not job cuts.
Lloyd also says that so far they haven't received the required technical papers from the Ministry to allow them to fully understand the impact of the announcement.
The chair tells us that as soon as the details are received, information will be provided to trustees so the board can start to understand the impact on the SCDSB and more information will be shared at that time.
We also reached out to the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.
Communications Manager, Pauline Stevenson, says “We don't know how many teachers are planning to retire and we are still waiting for details from the Ministry of Education. At this point, we are reviewing and waiting for more details so that we can respond appropriately”.
Toronto District School Board (TDSB) trustees have said the increase in class size will mean losing more than a thousand teaching jobs.
