Innisfil is the very first Canadian municipality to accept Bitcoin for payment of property taxes.
Council has voted in favour of working with Toronto-based company, Coinberry Limited, to provide services under this one year pilot project.
Homeowners will be able to go to the town's website and chose an option of using the digital currency Bitcoin.
Coinberry will then process the funds into Canadian currency and transfer the payment to the town of Innisfil.
This new payment option is to be ready to use sometime in April.
