A large excavator has fallen into the Moon River at Bala Falls, near the new hydro plant construction site.
It happened last night and no one was injured. Pictures of the situation are up on our Country 102 Facebook page.
Swift River Energy Ltd's VP Nhung Nguyen who is presently on site, tells Country 102 that the machine edged into the water last night and that the company is currently investigating the circumstances.
“All the on-site crew are safe with no injuries reported,” reads a statement from the company. “The safety of our crew and the surrounding community is first and foremost. We are pausing work at the site to review the incident and all proper reporting procedures have been followed.”
The excavator was pulled from the water by 12:30 pm Tuesday.
The Township of Muskoka Lakes has since reported the incident to the Provincial Spills Action Centre.
