Councillor Ralphi Cipolla is concerned about the future of the Orillia farmers' market if it remains at its current location.
The market is located in space between the library and opera house, a poor location says Cipolla because of a lack of room for vendors and a lack of parking for customers.
Earlier this week, Cipolla wanted council committee to ask staff to draft a feasibility report about moving the market back to the large parking lot at city hall, where it was temporarily moved to in 2009 to allow for construction of a new library.
Mayor Steve Clarke said the city does not own the lot and it was his understanding that something could be happening with that property in the near future.
He said it would be very problematic to potentially bring the market back to city hall only to have it move again.
When the market returned to the square at the library, there was opposition from a number of vendors, who packed up and went to Severn Township where they operate the Orillia Fairgrounds Farmers Market.
Cipolla says no matter whether he is at meetings or social events, people tell him to bring back the farmers' market to city hall, adding he is hearing the complaints all over the city.
Councillor David Campbell, who is the city's representative on the farmers' market committee, says he understands where Cioplla is coming from but he wants to raise the matter with the committee and have them come up with recommendations for different locations.
