Barrie Police have a cache of recovered stolen property they're trying to reunite with owners.
On Sunday, shortly after 8 pm, a citizen who was out walking a family pet on Murray Street in Barrie and heard a loud noise coming from a residence and observed a male run from the rear of the home.
The citizen immediately contacted Barrie Police and police arrived with the Canine Unit.
Police were also provided an excellent description of the suspect and located a male a short time later near Bayview Drive and Little Avenue. The male, who is 31-years old and resides in Barrie, was arrested and has been charged with one count of Break and Enter and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order.
A Search Warrant executed yesterday at a residence in Barrie and there was a significant amount of stolen jewellery, coins and other personal and family type heirlooms that were seized.
The stolen property and some that was already sold had been from eight additional break and enters and that the accused has been carrying out break and enters throughout the city since November of 2018 normally by forcing open rear doors or windows of the targeted homes.
At present, the accused remains in custody and will be facing additional criminal charges as the investigation continues.
Over the next few days, the Barrie Police will continue photographing and cataloguing the stolen property. Once complete, those photographs will be made available to the public in the hope of reuniting the rightful owners with their property and hopefully identify any additional break and enters that have not yet been reported to police.
Anyone with information on this mischief is asked to contact Constable Hankin of the Barrie Police Service at mhankin@barriepolice.ca, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.p3tips.com
