South Simcoe Police are letting residents know about a large seizure of suspected drugs known as “Purple Heroin”
On Friday traffic officers conducted a RIDE stop in Innisfil which resulted in a foot chase after the driver fled. A search by police revealed a substantial quantity of suspected heroin, cocaine, crystal meth and cannabis.
Police say among the drugs seized was 96 grams of purple heroin, a dangerous street drug commonly made from fentanyl and/or carfentanil and heroin and depending on the purity, could contain several hundred lethal doses of
fentanyl.
Fentanyl is 100 times stronger than morphine and 40 times stronger than heroin. Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl and 10,000 times more so than morphine.
A fatal dose of fentanyl and carfentanil can be as little as two milligrams.
“It is troubling to see a seizure of this magnitude and the deadly combination of the drugs seized during this arrest,” said South Simcoe Police chief Andrew Fletcher.
The other suspected drugs seized include 20 grams of crystal meth, over 180 grams of cocaine and more than 460 grams of marijuana, and officers also seized a quantity of cash.
A 29-year-old Innisfil man is facing numerous charges.
