The Ontario Hockey League today announced that veteran forward Brett Neumann of the Kingston Frontenacs is the OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week for the regular season week ending December 9 with eight points in three games including six goals and two assists while recording a plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Neumann produced back-to-back hat-trick performances over the weekend helping the Frontenacs win back-to-back games for the first time this season. After a tough 8-1 loss on Friday night to the London Knights, Neumann powered the Frontenacs to a 7-5 win on Saturday afternoon in Sarnia with his three goals, including one by penalty shot, contributing to his third five-point effort of the season and first star honours against the Sting. The Frontenacs’ Western Conference road trip wrapped up Sunday afternoon in Kitchener with Neumann again leading the offensive charge by scoring the game-winner, insurance marker, and empty-netter earning first star recognition in the 4-1 triumph over the Rangers.
A 19-year-old from Toronto, Ont., Neumann has already made 2018-19 the best season of his four-year OHL tenure. His 24 goals and 44 points put him eighth overall in league scoring and are both career-highs in just 32 games played following last season’s totals of 18 goals and 42 points across 68 games. Neumann was originally chosen by the Erie Otters in the third round of the 2015 OHL Priority Selection and joined the Frontenacs via trade in January, 2017.
Also considered for the award this week was 2019 NHL Draft prospect Arthur Kaliyev of the Hamilton Bulldogs scoring three goals and five assists for eight points in three games, and last week’s award recipient Jason Robertson of the Niagara IceDogs who leads the league in scoring after collecting four goals and three assists for seven points in just two games. In goal, rookie Andrew MacLean of the Owen Sound Attack played just one game last week but made it count posting 42 saves in a 5-1 victory on Saturday to halt the Knights winning-streak at 15 recording a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .977.
