Saginaw Spirit 3 Owen Sound Attack 0
Spirit 3 Attack 0
Ivan Prosvetov made 48 saves to post the shutout for the Spirit
Saginaw was outshot 48-27 in the contest but Prosvetov held the fort as the Spirit picked up 5 of a possible 6 points on a 3 game road swing through North Bay, Sudbury and Owen Sound.
Prosvetov is the first Saginaw goalie to ever shutout the Attack. The only other shutout for the Saginaw-North Bay franchise was posted by Ron Bertrand of the North Bay Centennials on January 21, 1990 when the centennial blanked the Owen Sound Platers 5-0 at North Bay.
The goal that stood as the game winner came 9 minutes into the 1st period when Saginaw captain Damien Giroux forced a turnover and then watched as his shot banked in off of an Owen Sound defender.
Early in the 3rd period Aidan Prueter won a draw cleanly in the Owen Sound end to Mason Millman whose shot was deflected by Jake Goldowski to give the Spirit a 2-0 lead and some breathing room.
The Saginaw lead was expanded to 3 goals 5 minutes later on an impressive solo dash by Cole Perfetti who beat Mack Guzda.
Guzda made 24 saves in taking the defeat for Owen Sound.
With the win, the Spirit move into a 4th place tie with Owen Sound for 4th in the Western Conference, although Saginaw has played 1 less game than Owen Sound.
Thursday, the Spirit will host the Sarnia Sting in a West Division battle.
The Attack who are on their longest losing streak of the season 3 straight defeats will be at Erie Wednesday to face the Otters & in St Catharines Thursday to meet the IceDogs.
