The Ford government’s Ontario Fall Economic Statement includes a tax credit for minimum wage earners, expanded hours for booze sales and the exemption of new rental housing from rent controls starting tomorrow.
The tax credit exempts minimum wage earners from provincial exempt tax, saving these earners $850 per year and minimum wage-earning families up to $1,700 per year.
The Province claims that the rental housing exemption will ignite new purpose-built rental construction in the GTA.
And, before beer and wine become available in corner stores, the government will extend hours at LCBO and Beer stores so they can opt to open between 9am and 11pm Monday through Sunday.
The Ford government also claims its cost-cutting measures have reduced the 2018 deficit to $14.5 billion.
