South Simcoe Police dealt with two reports of Internet Fraud involving purchases this past weekend.
In one case, a victim paid several hundred dollars to someone posing online
as a seller of French Bulldog puppies. The original asking price was much
higher but the 'seller' gave the victim a reduced price and surprise – the puppy never arrived.
In the second case, a victim responded to an online ad for Toronto Maple
Leaf Tickets. The victim and suspect settled on a price for four tickets.
The victim agreed to e-transfer half the cost in return for two tickets. A
second transaction was to follow with the remainder of the cash. The
victim never received the tickets.
Police say you should always meet potential sellers in a public place, preferably during the day.
Bring someone with you if you can and try to find a location that has
security cameras for extra protection
If something seems too good to be true, it usually is.
Police say to ask a lot of questions and properly inspect items before turning over your
hard-earned money
